Smart Publisher Android Begins Its 14-Day Google Play Closed Test
Twelve testers are now opted in to Smart Publisher Android’s closed test. The required 14-day Google Play testing period is underway.
Smart Publisher Android has reached a new Google Play milestone: 12 testers are opted in, and the required 14-day closed-testing period is now underway.
On 26 August 2026, Play Console still showed 0 testers opted in and no closed-test release. We listed what had to happen first in our Google Play closed test readiness checklist for Smart Publisher.
This is an important step, but it is not a public release. During a closed test, the app is available only to the approved testers. Their job is to use the same Play-distributed build that could later move toward production.
What the test is checking
The test is not only about whether the app opens. We are checking the complete Android workflow: installation from Google Play, media selection, scheduling, reminders, notification behavior and the final handoff to Instagram.
Smart Publisher Android helps a user prepare a post in advance, then reminds them at the selected time and opens the final sharing step. The user keeps control of the final Instagram action; the Android app does not silently publish through a connected Meta account.
What happens next
The closed test must continue for 14 consecutive days. During that period, we will review real behavior and fix any issue that appears in the Play-distributed build. After the requirement is complete, we can request the next Google Play production-access step.
This milestone brings Smart Publisher Android closer to public availability while keeping the release process measured and evidence-led.
